Normally, I'm one against soundtracks because they offer nothing new and they are just crap! It's hard to impress me with soundtracks. I want something new, something I can sink my teeth into. (No pun intended), but with Queen of the Damned, we get exactly that with Korn's Jonathan Davis at the helm leading the way. Davis had the unique opportunity to score the music for the actual film and to write songs that were actually played by Anne Rice's favorite vampire, LeStat and his band.

For those of you who don't have a clue or have been hiding from the sun, the story of Queen of the Damned features LeStat as a rock singer in the '80s whose music awakens Akasha, (Aaliyah) the queen of all vampires, and wants LeStat as her king and will kill anything that stands in her way. Sound kind of corny? I thought so right off the bat, but when I heard Jonathan Davis was involved, I knew that his music alone would make the movie and the soundtrack!!!

Davis wanted to create the perfect sound for the movie. A nice blend of dark, gothic metal, and heavy! A lot of the tunes involve an orchestra as well. How lucky can a guy get? Not only does he create the music for LeStat's band, but he also lends his vocal chords to be portrayed as LeStat's singing voice. Now you're getting excited aren't ya? So when you actually see the movie, we will all hear Davis's signature sound.

Now comes the tricky part, due to contractual obligations Davis can't have his voice on any of the songs of the soundtrack. This makes no sense to the rest of us, but they took a bad situation and turned it into a good one. Since Davis couldn't use his voice, he recruited several singers like Chester Bennington of Linkin Park, Wayne Static of Static-X, David Draiman of Disturbed, Jay Gordon of Orgy, and Marilyn Manson of. you guessed it to fill in for the soundtrack.

Since each of these front men have their own unique sound and style, it should be interesting to see how they do it compared to Jonathan Davis in the movie.

Also on the soundtrack are old favorites by Papa Roach, Deftones, Godhead, Tricky, Static-X, & Disturbed. Most of which you already own, but I think these songs need to be there. They add to the whole idea of good ole fashion times that are slow, dark, heavy, and melodic. Very mysterious but real!

Also on the disc, it features some newcomers to try and put their stamp on the world including Warner Bro's own Dry Cell. Dry Cell is a band to watch out for in 2002. Not only are they young, but they can carry a tune just like Linkin Park. Their hit single "Body Crumbles" will open your eyes! Another new band to break the mold is another Warner Bro's band Earshot. I'm very excited about these guys as well. They break the mold of the same old crap out there and sound very similar to Tool. The songs are structurally put together in a professional way and they don't need to scream their heads off to get their message across.

Until next time my freaks! Go see the movie, go pick up the soundtrack, and dream of immortality.
