KMFDM is back!! March 19th marks the highly anticipated new release, ATTAK from the band that champion in stomping out the mainstream with its combative beats, samples, and rebellious undertones. The line up may have changed but the music is still as distinct as prior core KMFDM records. From the die hard fans that have stayed with the band since its inception eighteen years ago to the younger fans that are profoundly loyal face an exciting year with the band as they release ATTAK, re-release OPIUM, and tour the United States after a five year lapse. We talked with Sascha, the founder and Industrial icon to find out what lies ahead for the band and it s fans.

Noize Pollution: Did you already have the title, ATTAK figured out before the events of September 11th?
Sascha: Yes, we had the title since March.

NP: For ATTAK, you joined up with Metropolis Records. How is that going so far?
Sascha: So far, its good. There is a sense of freedom when dealing with them. We had a lot of time to figure out material and the whole making/ creative process - more time than any other KMFDM record.

NP: Whose idea was it to redo Nancy Sinatras hit, These Boots Are Made For Walkin?
Sascha: It was an idea Tim Skold had for awhile to redo the song.

NP: Why the decision not to have BOOTS on ATTAK?
Sascha: Well, we just had so much material for the album so we figured just to have it as a single. On this album, there are eleven songs instead of the usual ten, so we had a lot to choose and work with.

NP: What is your favorite song off ATTAK?
Sascha: Oh, it always changes.

NP: How does this album differ from previous KMFDM albums?
Sascha: It varies about as much as the previous KMFDM albums. I see it as our past with the different stages - with the music still multifaceted.

NP: Why the decision to re-release OPIUM?
Sascha: The masters were found about a year ago and it is now in production. Now, with KMFDM being back- its just the right time to re-release!

NP: You bring a lot of guests for this record. Have any of these people been on your previous albums?
Sascha: Yeah, everyone has worked with us before - theyre all friends of ours.

NP: I first heard your music on the Mortal Kombat soundtrack. Do you plan on being on more soundtracks?
Sascha: When we get contacted we try to stay away for the big Hollywood type production but you never know. If we think the movie is worth it and the price is right- well consider something.

NP: A lot of people think that KMFDM is still broken up and that you still go by MDFMK. What happened and why the change back to KMFDM?
Sascha: KMFDM was at a point where it wasnt working. Everyone wasnt concentrating and wanted a hiatus. So, Tim Skold and I did MDFMK and released an album and toured in 2000 and that was that. Now, KMFDM is back and weve created tremendous sounds on this record and we re now preparing to go and tour for it. With the name going back to KMFDM from MDFMK is simple - both names are so fucking close- its like your going to A to Z and Z to A. KMFDM is a lot easier to say. People had a difficult time pronouncing MDFMK.

NP: Is the Schwein project still going on?
Sascha: As far as I know, it is not.

NP: Your songs are mostly in English. Germanys other breakthrough band, Rammstein mainly sings in German - is there a reason why you do not sing in German?
Sascha: To me, German is a hard language to sound lyrical in. Most of the time it is difficult to sound sonically eloquent in German. I think Rammstein can get away with it - which is totally cool!

NP: You run your own official website - I think that is amazing! Why do you do it?
Sascha: Well, its a very simple website and were about to completely re-design the site. I am definitely not a computer genius. I like to type something up and keep in touch!

NP: So, we will all be able to see you soon?
Sascha: Yeah, real soon actually.

NP: Do you know who is coming on tour with you?
Sascha: We dont know that, yet. Right now were just getting it all together.

NP: When was the last time KMFDM toured the U.S.?
Sascha: The last time was back in 1997 and well be back this summer!

NP: Ok, after we found out we were going to interview you, we e-mailed all of our street team - especially the teamers that had KMFDM in their top ten band listing and had them come up with some questions for you. So, here are a couple!

NP: This question comes from Meaghan in Seattle: Is your original handmade -tape release from Germany will ever be re-released as something we can all add to our collections?
Sascha: Yes, its going to be available on the website.

NP: Next question comes from Chris in San Antonio: Did you hear the Cleopatra Records tribute to KMFDM and if so what did you think of the covers?
Sascha: No. I have not heard it.

NP: Well that about wraps it all up! Thank you so much for your time! Have a good trip to Europe!

Sascha: Youre welcome! Thanks!
