This interview took place with Scooter and Terry of Cold on Lazer 103.3 FM in
Des Moines, IA on June 8th 2001 by DJ Jo Michaels and with help by C-Bone.
Noize Pollution: The album is called, "13 ways to bleed onstage,"
accompanied by a tour that sounds like it's going unbelievably well with Staind. From what
I've heard from lots of people, it sounds like a lot of Staind's crowd is embracing you guys.
Scooter: Yeah, I think so. Aaron (Lewis) does a couple of songs on our record and
their music is similar in some ways, so it seems to be a real easy tour for us to play with
them and Aaron and I were talking the other day about writing a song for our new record
that we start next year.
NP: So Aaron is on "Send in the Clowns" and then "Bleed?"
Scooter: With "Send in the clowns," we just wanted Aaron to come in and
scream because we needed that. He was like ' I don't want to leave the studio until we do
an acoustic song together so we played four or five songs for him and he picked "Bleed"
to do with us and it turned out good.
NP: Right on, your album is doing really well and people are real receptive
with it. How long is this tour going to go and more so; what are the plans after this tour?
Scooter: This tour is going to go until mid-August and we are talking right now about going
out a couple weeks with Slipknot and then we have Limp Bizkit at the end of the year. So
we are going to just feel it out and see what happens.
NP: That's cool. Really quick, I find it to be such an interesting story
how things came about and I'm sure you've told this story a million times about Jacksonville,
FL and it wasn't a big rock scene. You made a friend in particular and recorded a demo in his
home studio; can you give us the run down?
Scooter: Wes from Limp Bizkit used to open for a band called Grundig which
was us until we changed our name to Cold, but him and his brother used to play with us
all the time. They were buddies with us and a lot of the guys from Limp Bizkit
used to watch us play, so when Fred Durst moved there, he got a tape of us and liked
the music a lot. He called me one day to ask if they could cover a song. A grundig song
and I was like 'sure man we aren't doing anything really' so he added some acoustic stuff
and I went over to his house. Ross Robinson was producing their record at the time liked
our stuff a lot and decided to do our record right after the Limp Bizkit record.
NP: The album is so great, when I listen to it, I get a Depeche
Mode slash Black Sabbath feel to it.
Scooter: That's the kind of stuff we used to listen to, we all have different varieties of music we
listen to and bring to the table.
NP: What are the plans for the new album? I'm sure the record company wants to get you into the
studio for that and your next single is about to come out correct?
Scooter: "End of the World" comes out next week on MTV and we did that video and it's pretty
crazy so you have to check that out. Then I think Aaron and I are going to do "Bleed" and
put that out as we are going to write our new record, so as we are doing the new record that
song will come out on MTV to keep the vibe going while we are taking a break. It's going to
take a while to write the next album.
