I had the opportunity to catch Bionic Jive this past weekend at the Palace in Hollywood with the Kottonmouth
Kings and Primer 55.
On stage, Bionic Jive, captures your attention and takes
you on an intense mesmerizing journey that you don't want to end. Songs like "Hands to the Roof" and "I Shot Lucifer" are going to take
these five guys from the Phoenix area all the way to the top.
Get to know them now...
Noize Pollution: For people who haven't heard of Bionic Jive yet, can you describe what you
sound like?
Bionic Jive: Thug-Metal
NP: Right now you are on tour with Kottonmouth Kings and Primer 55...How is that
going? What is happening after this tour?
BJ: This particular tour has been a month--since the beginnning of December.
Prior to that we were on tour with D12. The Kottonmouth Kings were also on that tour. That was a serious experiment
to see how we were going to go over at a hard-core hop-hop crowd. Our next goal is to see how we do with a rock crowd.
We can go either direction. We know how it goes with the hip-hop kids so we need to see.
As far as after this tour, we got a couple things up in the air but nothing has been confirmed, so basically
we'll do a lot of spot dates til we get a confirmation about the next tour.
NP: How was it touring with D12?
BJ: It was a lot of fun. They totally treated us with a lot of respect. It was a
good experience to be with those guys. It was wild as fuck too!
NP: I first heard of you guys from on of our reps in Tucson over a
year ago. He told me to check out your MP3, which by the way was awesome. Are you guys from Arizona?
BJ: We are from Phoenix...We all live in different cities like Tempe, Mesa...
I don't even like calling it Phoenix. We play all the time at a night club in Tempe called Boston's.
NP: How long have you guys been together?
BJ: Two Years
NP: Is there a video out yet?
BJ: It's not out but it's done now. It's called "I Shot Lucifer" We haven't seen a copy of it yet.
They are trying to make plans to have it out by the first-quarter but...
NP: I read that you guys got signed 72 hours after your performance on
Farm Club. Is that true?
BJ: We did a showcase at the Viper Room in Los Angeles and all the record labels
were there to see us and Farm Club was one of them. We were then invited to play on the show. When we
played on the show Jimmy Iovine was there and hung out. We played last. We were there from 11am til 11 at night. He waited around
to see us.
He came up to our dressing room after the show and our attorney was in town and told Iovine about a
showcase coming up in NYC at CBGB's and and Iovine said there will be no showcase in NY.
THE man walked in our dressing room.
NP: Can you describe your live performance?
BJ: We are like a monsoon--dangerous, I am telling you. We are pretty humble
guys but when we get to stage I can definitely say we kill it.
NP: Is there anything you do to prepare for a show?
Emerg McVay: I smoke a lot of weed....kick back a little bit.
Chris Elsner: I drink a lot of beer.
Ako Mack: Say a prayer to the man
Rich Gartner: Tac Chi---a little yoga and play with Jello
Whole Band (laughing)--And take a shit! You gotta take a shit.
NP: What are you listening to now?
EM: We listen to a lot of different things. Right now Tech 9. It's crazy the roles
kinda got reversed around here. Me and him (referring to Ako Mack) listen to alot of rock and then you get in his truck (Rich Gartner)
and he's
listening to a bunch of hip-hop and I'm like turn that shit off!
Our favorite rock records of the year would be Incubus or Deftones, "White Pony". Also Puddle of Mudd.
NP: A few days ago, I e-mailed all of our street teamers that listed Bionic Jive in their top ten
and I had them send me a question they would like to ask you. I have
a few fan questions for you. This question is from
Jason Eastcott from Detroit asks: Is Bionic Jive going to continue non-stop
touring like many other bands have? Do you feel that this is what it is going to take without
a huge radio push?
BJ: We definitely plan to stay out here--non-stop. We are hoping for a radio
push too. Right now we just want to bring it to the people. We will eventually have to have radio play.
In the same token, we want a build up, like all my favorite bands, like I caught onto for the last 15 years
I saw in clubs or places like this before I saw them in an arena. We want to be more in touch on a
grassroots level--we don't want to break big like some bands do and wither away really quickly.
Jason from Detroits 2nd question: I heard that Bionic Jive did a remix of "Fight Music"
with D12. WIll that song be relaeased any time soon?
BJ: It is not going to be released because we found out that it was
a track that Dr. Dre did and he does not allow remixes of his stuff. I wish we would of know that
before the remix. But, we'll probably put it on the Internet or something
Jason from Detroits last question: What are your New Years Eve plans?
BJ: We are playing at Boston's in Tempe, AZ. Is that Dirty Jason from D12??
Kristal Mitchem from Sprin, Texas asks: What has been the craziest thing that has
happened to you while on tour?
BJ: I shall not speak because I may incriminate myself....
All we can say is a lot of crazy shit has happened. Ako staged dived in Houston and they dropped him! He almost broke his finger!
Hmmm...our first show was in New Orleans and we got there and saw Slayer. These two black people went into
the pit and tore it up. You don't see brothers in the pit.
The coolest thing to happen on the tour was that we
were able to eat Thanksgiving dinner at Bizarre from D12's house.
NP: What is your advice to bands trying to make it?
BJ: Keep going-It can happen. Don't stop. Whatever you do...Fuck anybody that
says anything--don't let anybody stand in your way of your success. Basically
fuck the world when it comes to that.
****Bionic Jive's album, "Armegeddon Through Your Speakers" is in stores now. If they blow through your city--
make sure to check them out--you will not be disappointed.
