Michael has been playing guitar since the age of 10. Having grown up on Black Sabbath, Rolling Stones, and Led Zepplin, he developed a passion and desire to play music during his youth. Michael, and twin brothers, Matthew and Nathan attended the same schools, from the 7th grade through high school. As friendly acquaintances, they began to share a mutual kinship and respect based solely on musical tastes. Soon, they found they not only shared similar tastes in their music, but also a common opinion of the social world they had each developed through their own life experience and reflection. As their paths crossed time and time again, a friendship was rooted. However, after high school, the three parted ways and Michael's struggle to find musicians that could share his musical vision became more and more frustrating. At the time, Matthew and Nathan attended college in Indiana and Italy until they realized that their relentless passion for music would ultimately force them to re-connect with their former school mate and pursue a dream they all shared. They moved back to Chicago and called Michael. A year later they acquired drummer, James Knight, and The Blank Theory played their first show on New Year's Eve in 1998. As the band developed over the next couple of years, the implementing of more modern day influences such as Tool, Failure and Nine Inch Nails began to compliment the foundations of My Bloody Valentine and Metallica. Sonically, The Blank Theory offers melodic and emotional vocals on a blanket of groove-oriented, hard-edged underpinning . Lyrically, they address social, political, and religious issues prevalent in today's society, through the eyes of both the victims and the aggressors. "People need to accept the burden of thought and to deny the constant demands to think as a group." - The Blank Theory "Unified by a common thread of experience and reflection, the Blank Theory was conceived in Chicago at the beginning of 1998. The name is a concept of the bands' that serves as a blanket statement about the global naivety of ideals. The suffering that ensues because of the powers that be, spawning ignorance among his followers." The blank theory is a four- piece power rock project, based in Chicago. All members encompass a deep passion for music allowing influences to range from staple metal bands as Black Sabbath to indie rockers Idaho and Built To Spill. The result is a powerful, heart wrenching display of anger and beauty. Each song tells the tale of a different extreme emotion that screams at the soul for enduring lifes inevitable twists. The music rocks, has melody, and the twin leaders of the band (matthew and nathan leone) are as charismatic as they come with a splinter of danger. In 4 years while a nation of girls are cooing over these guys, the A & R people who didnt get these guys signed up will be fired. - Dave Chamberlain, NEW CITY "The Blank Theory reminds me why I got into this business. Killer songs, great band...they're one of a very short list of Chicago artists that truly deserves megastardom." -James VanOsdol, Assistant Music Director/Local Music Director, WKQX-FM (Q101) |
